Description:
Eliquis 5 mg Tablet is an anticoagulant used to prevent and treat blood clots such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), as well as to reduce the risk of clot-related complications in patients with atrial fibrillation (an irregular and often rapid heartbeat). DVT typically involves the formation of blood clots in deep veins of the legs, while PE occurs when a clot blocks arteries in the lungs. In atrial fibrillation, the irregular heartbeat can increase the risk of blood clots, which may lead to serious conditions like stroke.
The active ingredient in Eliquis, Apixaban, works by inhibiting factor Xa, a crucial component in the blood clotting process. By preventing the conversion of fibrinogen (a soluble protein) into fibrin (an insoluble protein essential for clot formation), Eliquis helps to reduce the risk of dangerous blood clots.
Eliquis 5 mg should be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor, who will determine the appropriate dosage based on your medical condition. While generally well tolerated, some individuals may experience side effects such as nausea, anaemia, or unusual bleeding including swelling or bruising.
