Glimepiride
Description:
GP 0.5mg Tablet contains glimepiride, a sulfonylurea medication used to lower blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes. Glimepiride works by stimulating the beta cells in the pancreas to release more insulin. Insulin is a hormone that helps glucose (sugar) move from the blood into the body’s cells for energy.
It is important to note that glimepiride is effective only when the pancreas is still capable of producing some insulin. The 0.5mg strength is one of the lower available dosages and may be used as a starting dose or for patients who require a lower level of blood sugar control.
GP 0.5mg is taken orally once daily, usually before breakfast or the first main meal. Common side effects can include hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), weight gain, and gastrointestinal disturbances. Patients taking glimepiride should monitor their blood sugar levels regularly and be aware of the symptoms of hypoglycemia.
