Description:

Sulpitac-100mg Tab contains sultamicillin, which is a prodrug that, when administered, is hydrolyzed to yield ampicillin (a penicillin-type antibiotic) and sulbactam (a beta-lactamase inhibitor). Ampicillin works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial death.

Sulbactam has little antibacterial activity on its own but acts synergistically with ampicillin by irreversibly inhibiting beta-lactamase enzymes produced by some bacteria. These enzymes can inactivate ampicillin, making the bacteria resistant. By inhibiting beta-lactamase, sulbactam protects ampicillin from degradation, thus broadening its spectrum of antibacterial activity to include many beta-lactamase-producing strains.

Sulpitac-100mg is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections, including upper and lower respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, 1 and intra-abdominal infections. The 2 100mg strength may be used in pediatric patients or for less severe infections, with the dosage depending on the child’s weight and the type and severity of the infection.

It is usually taken orally, and the frequency of dosing is determined by the physician. Common side effects are similar to those of other penicillins and may include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and rash. Allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, are also possible.
