Salt Composition:
Olopatadine
Description:
Winolap-DS Eye Drops contain olopatadine hydrochloride, an antihistamine medication specifically formulated for ophthalmic use. Olopatadine works by selectively inhibiting the release of histamine from mast cells and by blocking histamine H1 receptors in the conjunctiva.
Histamine is a chemical mediator released during allergic reactions, causing symptoms such as itching, redness, tearing, and swelling of the eyes. By blocking histamine’s effects, olopatadine effectively provides relief from these allergic conjunctivitis symptoms.
Winolap-DS, likely indicating a “double strength” formulation, may offer a higher concentration of olopatadine for more potent and longer-lasting relief compared to standard olopatadine eye drops. This medication is typically used to treat seasonal allergic conjunctivitis (hay fever-related eye allergies) and perennial allergic conjunctivitis (year-round eye allergies caused by allergens like dust mites and pet dander).
The usual dosage is one drop in each affected eye once or twice daily, but the specific instructions provided by an ophthalmologist should always be followed. To administer the eye drops, patients should tilt their head back, pull down the lower eyelid to create a pocket, and instill the drop without touching the dropper tip to the eye or any other surface to prevent contamination.
Common side effects are usually mild and transient, and may include burning or stinging sensation, blurred vision, dry eye, and foreign body sensation in the eye. If these side effects persist or worsen, patients should consult their eye doctor. Winolap-DS Eye Drops are a prescription medication and should only be used under the guidance of an eye care professional.
