Clexane 40mg Injection (0.4ml Each) is an anticoagulant used to prevent and treat harmful blood clots. It works by stopping existing clots from growing and reducing the risk of new clots forming. This medicine is particularly effective in preventing deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), conditions where clots form in the veins or lungs.
The injection is administered subcutaneously (under the skin) by a healthcare professional and should never be injected into a muscle. The dosage and duration of treatment depend on your specific condition, how your body responds, and factors like your age and weight. It’s important to continue the medication even if you feel well, as it works preventively—stopping it abruptly may lead to clot formation. While on this medication, you should be cautious and avoid activities that may increase the risk of bleeding or injury.
Common side effects include pain at the injection site, bleeding, headache, shortness of breath, swelling (edema), anemia, fever, diarrhea, and elevated liver enzymes. Severe headaches or stomach pain could indicate internal bleeding, which may not always be obvious. Notify your doctor immediately if you experience any unusual symptoms.
Before starting Clexane, inform your doctor if you have a history of high blood pressure, diabetes, or stroke. Do not use this medication if you have ongoing bleeding issues. Some medications may interact with Clexane, so it’s essential to share your full medical and drug history with your doctor. People with low body weight may face a higher risk of bleeding, and alcohol consumption can further increase the chance of stomach bleeding.
