Description:
Gemidro Tab contains gemfibrozil, a fibric acid derivative primarily used to lower high levels of triglycerides (a type of fat in the blood) and to raise high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol (“good” cholesterol). It may also have a modest effect on lowering low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol (“bad” cholesterol).
Gemfibrozil works by increasing the breakdown and removal of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins from the plasma and by increasing the production of apolipoprotein A-I, a major component of HDL. It is often prescribed to individuals with hypertriglyceridemia and mixed dyslipidemia, especially when dietary measures alone are not sufficient, and to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events in some patients.
Gemidro Tab is usually taken twice daily, 30 minutes before morning and evening meals. Common side effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain), headache, and blurred vision. There is a potential risk of myopathy (muscle disease), especially when gemfibrozil is used with statins.
