Description:
Glyxambi 25/5 Tablet is a combination medication used to lower blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes. It contains two active ingredients with complementary mechanisms of action: empagliflozin and linagliptin. Empagliflozin is a sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitor.
It works by blocking the reabsorption of glucose in the kidneys, causing excess glucose to be excreted in the urine, thereby lowering blood sugar levels. Linagliptin is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor.
It works by increasing the levels of incretin hormones, which stimulate the release of insulin from the pancreas when blood sugar is high and decrease the secretion of glucagon (a hormone that raises blood sugar). The 25/5 designation indicates the strengths of empagliflozin (25mg) and linagliptin (5mg) in each tablet. Glyxambi is taken once daily. Common side effects may include urinary tract infections, genital infections, and nasopharyngitis. It is important for patients to follow dietary and exercise recommendations while taking this medication.
