Met XL AM 50/5 Tablet is a combination medication that contains two active ingredients used to manage high blood pressure and control heart rate. It is also effective in treating heart-related chest pain (angina), irregular heart rhythms, and chronic heart failure. By working together, the two components help to improve blood flow and reduce the strain on the heart.
This medicine can be taken at any time of the day, with or without food, but it’s important to take it at the same time daily for consistent results. You should continue taking it exactly as prescribed, even if you feel fine, since high blood pressure often has no noticeable symptoms. Stopping the medication suddenly may worsen your condition. Alongside the medication, maintaining a healthy lifestyle—such as regular exercise, a balanced diet, and weight management—can further support blood pressure control.
Common side effects may include headache, ankle swelling, skin rash, nausea, slow heart rate, dizziness, and depression. As it can cause drowsiness or dizziness, avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you know how the medication affects you. It may also raise potassium levels in the blood, so avoid potassium-rich foods or supplements unless advised otherwise. Your doctor may recommend regular monitoring of your blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolyte levels during treatment.
