Description:
Novelon Tablet is a combination of two hormonal medicines used primarily for contraception (to prevent pregnancy) and to treat irregular menstrual cycles. It works by preventing ovulation, thickening cervical mucus to block sperm, and altering the uterine lining to prevent fertilized egg implantation. In addition to its contraceptive benefits, it may also help reduce the risk of ovarian cancer with long-term use.
The tablet should be taken once daily, ideally at the same time each day, starting from the first day of your menstrual cycle. If vomiting occurs within four hours of taking the tablet, another dose should be taken. In case of a missed dose and a delay of more than 12 hours, it is recommended to use additional contraception like condoms for the next two days. Common side effects include nausea, headache, breast tenderness, mild weight gain, spotting between periods, or occasionally missed periods.
Serious but rare side effects such as swelling or pain in the limbs, chest pain, shortness of breath, or vision changes could indicate a blood clot and require immediate medical attention. This medicine should not be used by women who smoke and are over the age of 35 or those with a history of heart disease, blood clots, or hormone-sensitive cancers. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid using this medication. It is important to inform your doctor about any other medications you are taking, as interactions may reduce its effectiveness. Regular monitoring of blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar may be recommended during long-term use.
