Description:
Skinlite Cream is a triple combination topical medication used for the short-term treatment of melasma (dark patches on the skin). It contains three active ingredients: hydroquinone, tretinoin, and mometasone furoate. Hydroquinone is a depigmenting agent that works by inhibiting tyrosinase, an enzyme involved in melanin production, thus lightening dark spots.
Tretinoin is a retinoid that increases skin cell turnover, helping to exfoliate pigmented skin and promote the growth of new, lighter skin cells. Mometasone furoate is a potent corticosteroid that reduces inflammation, which can contribute to hyperpigmentation and also helps to mitigate some of the irritation caused by tretinoin. This combination is effective for reducing the appearance of melasma but should be used under strict medical supervision due to the potential for significant side effects.
It is typically applied once daily at night to the affected areas. Due to the presence of a corticosteroid and tretinoin, potential side effects can include skin irritation, redness, peeling, dryness, burning, itching, and changes in skin color. Long-term or inappropriate use can lead to more serious side effects like thinning of the skin, stretch marks, and systemic absorption of the corticosteroid. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not use this cream. Strict sun protection is essential during and after treatment.
