Salt Composition:
Isosorbide Dinitrate (5mg)
Description:
Sorbitrate 5mg Tablet contains isosorbide mononitrate, a nitrate medication used to prevent angina pectoris (heart-related chest pain). Isosorbide mononitrate works by relaxing the smooth muscles of blood vessels, leading to vasodilation.
This dilation of peripheral veins reduces the return of blood to the heart (preload), and the dilation of arteries reduces the resistance the heart has to pump against (afterload), both of which decrease the workload on the heart and reduce its oxygen demand. Additionally, it can dilate coronary arteries, improving blood flow to the heart muscle.
Sorbitrate 5mg is typically used for the long-term prevention of angina attacks. It is usually taken two or three times a day, as prescribed by a physician, with a nitrate-free interval often recommended to prevent tolerance. Common side effects may include headache (which can be severe initially but often subsides with continued use), dizziness, lightheadedness, and flushing.
