Sotret NF 24mg Tablet contains isotretinoin, a powerful medication primarily used for the treatment of severe nodular acne that has not responded to other treatments, including topical medications and oral antibiotics. Isotretinoin is a retinoid, meaning it is related to vitamin A. It works through multiple mechanisms to target the underlying causes of severe acne.
One of the primary actions of isotretinoin is to reduce the size and activity of the sebaceous glands, which are responsible for producing sebum (an oily substance that can clog pores and contribute to acne). By decreasing sebum production, isotretinoin helps to create a less favorable environment for the growth of Propionibacterium acnes (now known as Cutibacterium acnes), the bacteria involved in acne development.
The most common side effects include dry skin, rash, and increased liver enzymes. They are not usually serious and often disappear after getting used to the medicine but if they bother you or do not go away, tell your doctor.
