Description:
Stamlo 2.5mg Tablet contains amlodipine, a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker primarily prescribed for the management of hypertension (high blood pressure) and the prevention of angina pectoris (heart-related chest pain). Amlodipine exerts its therapeutic effects by inhibiting the influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle cells.
In vascular smooth muscle, this calcium channel blockade leads to vasodilation, resulting in a decrease in peripheral vascular resistance and consequently, a lowering of blood pressure. By reducing the afterload on the heart, amlodipine makes it easier for the heart to pump blood.
In the context of angina, amlodipine helps to dilate the coronary arteries, improving blood flow to the heart muscle and reducing the frequency and severity of chest pain. Its relatively long half-life allows for once-daily administration, enhancing patient compliance. Stamlo 2.5mg is often used as a starting dose or for individuals who may be more sensitive to the effects of antihypertensive medications.
