Description:
Sucrafil O Gel is a combination gastrointestinal medication formulated to provide relief from symptoms associated with peptic ulcers, gastritis, esophagitis, and other acid-related disorders of the upper digestive tract. Its dual mechanism of action addresses both the protection of damaged mucosal lining and the symptomatic relief of pain. The two key active ingredients are sucralfate and oxetacaine (also known as oxethazaine in some regions).
Sucralfate is a basic aluminum salt of sucrose octasulfate. In the acidic environment of the stomach and duodenum, sucralfate undergoes extensive cross-linking to form a viscous, gel-like substance that adheres to the ulcerated or inflamed areas of the mucosa. This protective coating acts as a physical barrier, shielding the sensitive tissue from the corrosive effects of stomach acid, pepsin (a digestive enzyme), and bile salts. By preventing further irritation and erosion, sucralfate promotes the natural healing processes of the gastrointestinal lining. It has minimal systemic absorption, with most of the administered dose remaining within the digestive tract.
Oxetacaine (or oxethazaine) is a potent local anesthetic that exerts its effect by reversibly blocking nerve impulses at the site of application. When Sucrafil O Gel is ingested, oxetacaine comes into contact with the inflamed or ulcerated mucosa of the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum. By numbing the sensory nerve endings in these areas, it provides rapid and effective relief from the pain and discomfort associated with acid-related disorders. This local anesthetic action is particularly beneficial in alleviating symptoms such as heartburn, epigastric pain, and discomfort related to ulcers. The effect of oxetacaine is relatively short-lived, but when combined with the protective action of sucralfate, it offers both immediate symptomatic relief and supports long-term healing.
