Description:
Symbicort 160mcg/4.5mcg Turbuhaler is a combination inhaler used for the long-term management of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It contains two active ingredients that work together to relieve breathing difficulties by reducing inflammation in the airways and relaxing the airway muscles, making it easier to breathe.
Your doctor will advise you on how often to use this inhaler. While you may start to feel improvement after a few days, it may take several weeks for the full effect to be noticeable. It’s important to use Symbicort regularly, even if you’re feeling well, as this means the medicine is working to control your symptoms. Stopping treatment suddenly can lead to worsening of symptoms. Note that Symbicort is not intended for immediate relief of sudden breathing problems—use a rescue inhaler for quick relief during such episodes. To ensure the medication is effective, it’s essential to use the correct inhaler technique.
Common side effects include headache, nausea, vomiting, stomach discomfort, and respiratory tract infections. These are usually mild, but if they persist or cause concern, speak to your doctor. Rinsing your mouth or brushing your teeth after each use can help reduce the risk of mouth and throat irritation or infection. Though rare, serious side effects can occur—consult your doctor if you experience anything unusual.
Before starting this medication, inform your doctor if you have any liver or kidney issues so that the dosage can be adjusted if necessary. Also, let your doctor know if you are pregnant, planning to conceive, or breastfeeding.
