Syntran 200 MG CAP likely contains nitrofurantoin, an antibiotic primarily used to treat and prevent urinary tract infections (UTIs). Nitrofurantoin is a synthetic nitrofuran derivative that exerts its antibacterial action by damaging bacterial DNA. It is selectively active against many common bacterial pathogens that cause UTIs, including Escherichia coli (E. coli), Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus saprophyticus, and certain Klebsiella and Enterobacter species.

Description:

Syntran 200 MG CAP likely contains nitrofurantoin, an antibiotic primarily used to treat and prevent urinary tract infections (UTIs). Nitrofurantoin is a synthetic nitrofuran derivative that exerts its antibacterial action by damaging bacterial DNA. It is selectively active against many common bacterial pathogens that cause UTIs, including Escherichia coli (E. coli), Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus saprophyticus, and certain Klebsiella and Enterobacter species. However, it has limited activity against many other types of bacteria, including Pseudomonas and Proteus species.

Nitrofurantoin works through a unique mechanism that involves its intracellular reduction by bacterial enzymes to reactive intermediates. These reactive metabolites then bind to and damage bacterial ribosomal proteins, DNA, and other macromolecules, ultimately leading to bacterial cell death. This mechanism of action is thought to be responsible for its broad spectrum of activity against common uropathogens and its relatively low propensity for developing bacterial resistance compared to some other antibiotics.

Syntran 200 MG CAP contains a higher strength of nitrofurantoin (200 milligrams), which is typically used for the treatment of acute, uncomplicated UTIs in adults and adolescent females. Lower strengths and different formulations (such as macrocrystalline or monohydrate/macrocrystalline forms) are also available and may be used for long-term prophylactic treatment to prevent recurrent UTIs in some individuals. The specific formulation can affect the drug’s absorption and side effect profile.

The 200 mg capsule is usually taken orally, typically once or twice daily for a duration of 5 to 7 days for an acute infection, depending on the severity and the specific guidelines. It is generally recommended to take nitrofurantoin with food or milk to enhance its absorption and reduce the incidence of gastrointestinal side effects, such as nausea and vomiting. Patients should be advised to complete the full course of antibiotics as prescribed, even if their symptoms improve before the medication is finished, to ensure complete eradication of the bacteria and prevent the development of antibiotic resistance.
