Description:
Tobacin Eye/Ear Drops is a broad-spectrum antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections of the eye, such as conjunctivitis, and of the ear, such as otitis externa. It may also be prescribed to prevent infections following eye or ear injuries or surgeries. The medication works by inhibiting the growth of bacteria, effectively helping to alleviate symptoms and clear up the infection.
To ensure optimal results, Tobacin should be used exactly as directed by your doctor. It should be instilled at evenly spaced intervals and the full course of treatment must be completed, even if symptoms begin to improve early. Skipping doses or stopping the treatment prematurely may result in the infection returning or worsening. If other medications are to be used in the same eye or ear, wait at least five minutes before applying them.
Though effective against a wide range of bacteria, Tobacin will not treat viral infections and should only be used when prescribed to avoid the risk of developing antibiotic resistance due to unnecessary use.
Common side effects include temporary irritation, burning, itching, or redness at the site of application. These effects are usually mild, but if they persist or worsen, it’s important to consult your doctor. Blurred vision may occur briefly after applying the drops in the eye, so it is advisable not to drive immediately afterward. Additionally, contact lenses should be avoided during treatment for an eye infection to prevent further irritation or complications.
